  • Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center includes a campus on 245 acres on the western edge of Milwaukee.
  • The hospital has 113 acute care beds, 150 domiciliary beds and 113 nursing home care unit beds.
  • VA Milwaukee health care serves a population of more than 234,000 Veterans. In 2019, we provided care for 63,891 Veterans.
  • We serve a 7,500-square-mile region that includes 16 counties in southeastern and east central Wisconsin.



Responsibilities

  • Assure quality care by adhering to standards set by the physicians
  • Provide care education to patients in person or over the phone
  • Adhere to compliance guidelines throughout processes (OSHA, FDA, HIPAA)
  • Assess patient health and develop care plans
  • Manage acute and chronic illnesses
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments, administer medications, and provide wound and tracheostomy care
  • Insert IV lines and care for PICC lines
  • Conduct ventilator and suctioning procedures
  • Educate patients and families about health conditions and medications
  • Respond to emergencies and perform Continuous Protective Observation (CPO)
  • Provide clinical oversight to LPNs, CNAs, and Health Technicians
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a safe care environment



Qualifications

  • ANY State License Accepted
  • Registered nurse shall have successfully completed a degree in Nursing from a National League of Nursing or from an American Academy College of Nursing accredited college or university
  • License must be unencumbered and remain in effect during contract employment
  • Minimum of 1-year SCI or 2-years Med/Surg Inpatient experience
  • Registered Nurses shall have a current BLS, ACLS (from AHA or ARC)
  • Ventilator experience preferred
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (Oracle Cerner preferred)
