The starting pay for the successful candidate will start at step 1)Job SummaryThe General Merchandise Clerk ("GMC") is accountable for delivering G.O.A.T. (Greet, Observe, Assist, Thank) service to our customers. This position plays a key role in supporting multiple areas of store operations and delivering outstanding customer service; therefore requires a versatile and adaptable individual who can take on a variety of tasks as needed throughout the store.This role consists of front-end responsibilities, including bagging customer purchases, retrieving shopping carts, and helping maintain a smooth and efficient checkout process. In addition, the position involves other responsibilities such as stocking shelves, organizing displays, fulfilling e-commerce shopping orders for customers, and assisting with floral and cut fruit preparation and presentation.Job ResponsibilitiesThe GMC may be assigned to one (or more) of several departments/assignments within the store and responsibilities may shift based on the operational needs of the store. This job posting includes all duties that can be performed by a GMC.Provide friendly, helpful service while maintaining a professional demeanor and enhancing the customer's shopping experience (G.O.A.T)Assist with customer questions, locating products, product recommendations, and communicating out-of-stock issues or customer concerns to store managementBag groceries carefully and efficiently, separating items properly; along with offering and helping customers with loading groceries to their vehiclesEnsure shopping carts are regularly gathered from the parking lot and organized at store entrances for customer useGrocery Responsibilities:Open boxes to stock, and refill shelves, displays, and end caps with general merchandise itemsFollowing CAO bread procedures for working and writing bread ordersBuild and maintain GMC product displays following store planograms, seasonal guidelines, and store managementBale cardboard regularly and maintain the backroom clean, organized, and free of clutter to ensure a safe and efficient work environmentEnsure correct signage and pricing is visible and accurate, including routine price changesKeep aisles and display areas clean, safe, and free of hazardsEcommerce:Receive online orders, accurately locate and inspect items for damage, defects, or freshness before packing to meet customer expectationsReplace or report unavailable or damaged items promptly along with updating customers on substitutions or delaysPack items properly to avoid damage during transport and label orders clearly for pickupCommunicate to store management regarding order progress or issuesAssist customers by carrying or escorting their completed orders from the store to their vehicles, ensuring a smooth and convenient pickup experienceProduce Responsibilities:Cut, prepare, package, label, and price fresh-cut produce items for sale to customerStock and rotate merchandise to maintain freshness and an attractive displayMonitor product temperatures and maintain proper storage conditionsMaintain logs and records of damaged and lost merchandiseComplete price changes and assist Produce Manager with monthly inventory countsFloral:Open, price, and stock floral merchandise while keeping displays neat, attractive, and well-organized to draw customer interestMonitor floral inventory for freshness and quality, removing wilted or damaged products promptlyPlace point-of-sale signs, tags, and promotional materials for floral and GMC produce products including routine price updatesSupport the Produce department by stocking and maintaining the salad wall and other GMC produce itemsOther Responsibilities:Operate all standard store equipmentsuch as hand trucks, box cutters, department equipment, etc. safely and efficiently by adhering to established safety protocolsWork collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth department operations and excellent customer experienceAll other related duties as required and assignedRequirements / QualificationsMust be at least 18 years of ageHigh school diploma is preferred but not requiredA valid Food Handler / Health CardAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and responsibilitiesFriendly, helpful attitude with a focus on customer satisfaction and service at all timeAbility to work well within the team and follow direction with a good attitudeExcellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with customers and teammatesBasic math and reading skills for handling pricing, labels, equipment, and inventoryGood problem-solving abilities and attention to detailAbility to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weightsAvailable to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidaysMust maintain a sense of integrity and adhere to all store policies and procedures, including safety standards and the collective bargaining agreementJoin our team and make a difference.Be a part of a team that makes a difference in the communities we serve.We value and appreciate our teammates.We treat others like we want to be treated.We like to challenge the status quo and are actively embracing change.We are a team that fosters open communication.We have fun and celebrate our teammate's achievements and failures.Nearest Major Market: Los Angeles
