Job Brief

We are currently seeking a candidate for the Estimating Department at Schmid & Rhodes Construction. Under the guidance of the Director of Pre-Construction, the role involves creating timely and precise project estimates, while also focusing on enhancing the department's processes.


The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has previous experience as an Estimator and is seeking an opportunity for career development. We're looking for someone who takes the initiative, is comfortable working independently, and possesses excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail. They should also be enthusiastic about contributing to our team culture and have innovative ideas on how the Estimating department can enhance and expand.


This position involves developing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors, assessing proposals, reviewing plans and specifications, and preparing cost estimates for new construction projects within the company. Additionally, this role includes creating estimate presentations that the sales team will submit to potential clients.


Responsibilities


●       Develop timely and accurate project estimates through:

●       Analyzing construction documents to gain a thorough understanding of the project.

●       Think critically to determine key variables

●       Create/find options for clients to value add or value engineer

●       Determine what factors of production will influence the cost/schedule of a project

●       Produce scopes of work on all projects including new construction, additions, and remodels

●       Refine/update existing documentation within the estimating department to help the production and administration teams for all future work

●       Work with Director of Construction and Director of Quality and Training to recruit, evaluate, and onboard new potential subcontractors and vendors

●       Create estimate presentations for the sales team to use with clients

●       Aid Director of Pre-Construction in a variety of different tasks including permitting, utilities, handoffs, site meetings, and subcontractor buyouts


Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate should have at minimum 5 years of experience as an Estimator in the construction industry. This experience could be in custom residential construction, however this is not a requirement.


●       Desire to learn and grow

●       Relevant work experience in the estimating field

●       Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

●       Basic computer skills; Proficient in Excel and Adobe

●       Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications

●       Basic mathematics skills

●       Microscopic attention to detail

●       Adequate knowledge of field operations and building procedures

●       Continues education on new building products, construction details, and relevant building-coded

●       Excellent time management skills; ability to “self-start”

●       Ability to understand statistical data and mathematical concepts

●       Strong decision-making skills

●       Critical and resourceful thinking skills


Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 40-45 hours per week. Part-time could be a possibility for the right candidate.
