POSITION SUMMARY


Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship is seeking a skilled and motivated Web Developer to join our team. This position will report to the AVP/Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and will work in close collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and her team. This role is critical in bringing our Content Management System (CMS) in-house, which is currently being managed and developed by our third party partner. Additionally, the Web Developer will be responsible for developing an intranet for the institute using the SharePoint platform, working in collaboration with a development partner. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development and be proficient in various web technologies and frameworks. Furthermore, the Web Developer will ensure the security and integrity of our web applications and data.

We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated, exemplifies exceptional customer service, possesses effective communication skills, is organized, and has project management experience. This individual must wholeheartedly embrace the mission of Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Web Development:

  • Build, maintain, and scale all our websites.
  • Proficient in languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP (for platforms like WordPress and Drupal) to build and maintain web applications.
  • Support website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS practices.
  • Write clean, efficient, & well-documented code using best software development practices.
  • Strong knowledge of PHP web frameworks.
  • Good understanding of fully synchronous behavior of PHP.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented PHP programming.
  • Design assignments with web services like REST, SOAP, etc.
  • Understand search engine optimization (SEO) practices.
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs.
  • Extend the CMS as needed to meet the evolving requirements of the Institute.
  • Collaborate with web designers to match visual design intent.
  • Build responsive and user-friendly website and mobile-friendly interfaces optimized for different devices and browsers.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure websites are functioning correctly.
  • Optimize web pages for security and responsiveness.
  • Ensure the CMS is up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest web technologies and industry trends to ensure the website is current and secure.


Intranet Development:

  • Develop an intranet for the institute using the SharePoint platform.
  • Collaborate with a development partner to design and implement the intranet.
  • Ensure the intranet meets the needs of the institute and provides a user-friendly experience for staff and students.
  • Basic understanding of SharePoint governance.


Database Management:

  • Understand and manage database systems used by the CMS to store content, user data, and configurations.
  • Create and manage databases for website functionality.
  • Optimize database performance and ensure data integrity.
  • Integrate data from various back-end services and databases.


Server/OS and Security/Access Management:

  • Have a basic understanding of operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server) and web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx).
  • Handle server configurations and ensure the web environment is secure and efficient.
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools
  • Implement and manage access controls to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and breaches.
  • Stay informed about the latest security threats and best practices.



QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years as the primary web developer.
  • Proficient in languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Experience with CMS platforms such as WordPress and Drupal.
  • Understanding of relational database systems and experience with SQL databases.
  • A solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices.
  • Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization process.
  • Solution oriented with aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.
