General Anesthesiologist

ECAA Anesthesia Specialists is one of the largest anesthesia private practices in the Mid Atlantic region. We have been in operation since 1978 and have a strategic growth model of spreading private practice throughout the region. Private practice allows our providers to maintain autonomy in patient care. About the Position

Our private practice group in Hickory, NC is seeking a full-time BC/BE general anesthesiologist. The group greatly emphasizes a work/life balance. This is a two year partnership track, no buy-in required. Case mix includes general, orthopedics with plenty of regional, OB, cardiothoracic (TEE certification or experience a plus but not required), plastics, neuro, peds and dental. No trauma. MD's rarely cover their own cases but if interested in doing so more often this is negotiable. The group covers two local hospitals as well as four ambulatory centers.

Benefits and Time-off

Our Physicians receive seven weeks vacation for their first year and eight weeks vacation for their second year. Partners receive 9-10 weeks of vacation per year. The group would also entertain an employed position with no non-clinical duties. General MDs typically take 1 weekday call per week with post-call day off and 4-5 weekends/yr with post-call day off. Total amount of call would directly correlate with percentage of OR days. All call is from home unless you reside more than 30 minutes from the hospital. In addition to base salary there is plenty of opportunity to pick up extra call to supplement income. Extra call is totally voluntary.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and administers general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.
• Provides anesthesia maintenance and adjustment before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintains patient records.
• Orders diagnostic tests as needed.
• Works closely with surgical specialists.
• Performs venous and arterial punctures.
• Performs pre-anesthesia patient evaluation.
• Provides post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
• Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation.
• Communicate with patients, and their families and caregivers.
• Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
• Evaluates patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine an appropriate anesthesia and pain management plan.
• Monitors patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs and critical functions during course of procedures.
• Performs tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
• Monitors patients following procedures to determine when they can be safely moved from one stage of recovery to the next.
• Takes detailed medical history to determine possible allergic or negative reactions to medication.
• Supervises registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff.
• Mentors and supervises anesthesiology interns if applicable

Position Requirements

• Anesthesiologist must be board certified / board eligible by the ABA
• Physicians must have a NC license or obtain one
• Current ACLS Card
• Current PALS Card
• Must possess strong leadership skills, be self-motivated, and embrace a culture that values collaboration and teamwork
