Fiscal Specialist 1, Accounts Receivable & Collections AccountantSkagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications for a Fiscal Specialist 1, Accounts Receivable & Collections Accountant in the Business Office. Under the general supervision of the Controller, this position will follow established guidelines and procedures and exercise independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks to perform as a Fiscal Specialist 1 - Accounts Receivable & Collections. This position utilizes a complex automated system to process receipt of payments, prepare invoices, adjust funds, maintain records, and prepare bank deposits. The successful candidate will demonstrate efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, classified position working 12 months a year on-site at the Skagit Valley College Business Office in Mount Vernon, Washington.Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish People's, especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, Samish Indian Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe. Maintain records regarding NSF checks.Work with third-party vendor for collection on NSF checksSend bad debt invoices for the Financial Aid department and submit to collectionsWork closely with cashiers to maintain accurate student accounts and agency records. Determine accounts receivable that are uncollectible to be written off on an annual basis.Deposit ProcessingMatch receipts for payments to invoices and consult with agencies to resolve unpaid or billing discrepanciesAbility to enter information and complete detailed work with a very high degree of accuracy using the college's integrated computerized systemsAssist with collection effortsMaintain internal controls to ensure the safety of fundsResponsibly and accurately handle the public's money when processing financial transactions and consistently follow applicable fiscal guidelines, regulations, principles, and standardsExercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations to resolve problemsReview items in the Receivables Workcenter and resolve any issuesRun month-end processCollege Campus SupportAct as an effective communication link and reliable source of information to othersRespond to requests for information from students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Provide support to other college departments, including Financial Aid, Veterans Office, and Enrollment Services, as related to accounts receivablePerform accounting activities to ensure the delivery of accurate, timely accounting services to SVC and other entitiesUse critical thinking, reasoning, and experience to make sound decisionsBack up Business Office functions as needed, including cashieringEffective communication skills in working with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds and persons with physical and/or learning disabilitiesOther duties as assignedMaintain regular attendance and punctualityPlan and manage time efficientlyParticipate in training related to job functionsCollect and organize data on electronic spreadsheetsSuccessfully meet deadlines to ensure continued delivery of servicesAccept personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of workProduce accurate results with little need for oversightComply with rights to privacy.
