Job Title: Temp Aid Crewperson- Printing Work Period: Mid-April to End of September. Position Function: The primary role of the Temp Aide Crewperson in the print department is to perform print finishing duties including coil binding, cutting, laminating and three hole punching various books of various sizes and assisting in other areas of the department. Essential Performance Responsibilities: Coordinate with the Print Center Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates. Accomplish minor adjustments as outlined in the operator's manual on the various equipment Utilization of various bindery and wide format equipment located within the SSC Print Center Advises the Supervisor of production problems of equipment so that the production schedules can be effectively completed Develop and understand all skills that relate to the total operation of the Production Print Center Monitor quality control of materials being produced and / or processed in Production Print Center Control workflow scheduling, job tracking, and completing orders, using automated online system Examine job sheet/ and or print order requests to determine quantities, stock specifications, color or black print, print finishing, wide format finishing, and any special order requests • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures • Pack and label boxes, cartons, or packages of finished products Follow all guidelines implemented with secure materials Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor Equipment: This position may require the ability to operate various equipment in the Print Center, in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use. Physical and Mental Demands: • Production printing environment - relaxed, safe attire required • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (4 or more hours throughout the day while performing such tasks as printing and bindery work), bend, twist, balance, stoop, and kneel • Must be able to lift small boxes of 50 pounds, greater sizes with assistance • Must be able to see and hear well, handle multiple priorities and concentrate on tasks • Frequent lifting 30 to 50 lbs. • Bend / twist frequently 50 to 75 % • Noise level is usually moderate to loud Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • A thorough working knowledge of production equipment and print processes • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written in order to communicate with other inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information • Ability to perform as a team player • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and customers. • Exhibits a professional manner and a positive attitude • Knowledge of various type of materials and procedures used in the area is essential • Knowledge of paper media and other printing materials • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them Interrelations: • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service Employee Punctuality and Appearance: • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position Qualification Profile: • A high school diploma or GED required • A minimum of three (3) years relevant production experience commensurate with the required skill level FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department Specifics: • Crewperson-Bindery Operator tends various bindery equipment and performs a combination of the following tasks involved in binding books, folding pamphlets, stationary, folders, hemming, grommets, laminating, etc., assembling printed material in accordance with print order specifications. o Read print orders to determine setup specifications and instructions o Set machine controls to adjust lengths and thickness of folds, stitches, and cuts to synchronize speed of feeding devices and stitching. o Set up and operate machines that perform binding operations such as perfect binding, folding, and trimming on books and related items. o Punch holes in paper sheets by machine; coil and hole punching, fastens sheets, signature, or other printed materials together, using machine or hand stapler, adjusts and tends equipment that fastens pages and covers together. o Thread spirals in perforated holes of items to be bound. o Feeds covers, signatures, and sheets into equipment for collating, stitching, trimming, folding, gluing and perforating operations. o Examines stitched, collated, bound and unbound publications to ensure pages are bound in numerical order as per sample, and examines copy quality. o Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and to determine whether adjustments are needed. o Lubricate and clean machine parts and make minor repairs in order to machines in working condition. o Assist with wide format operation, including vinyl banner hemming and grommets, trimming and cutting to size foam board and mounting, trimming wide format media to size for facilities installs, assisting with additional duties associated with wide format and poster orders.
