They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.Essential Key Job Responsibilities include:Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staffMonitors and records vital signsAssists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needsAccurately measures, records, and reports intake and outputObtains and records daily weightPerforms blood glucose testing using blood glucose meterReports changes in patient's status promptly to RNPerforms as patient care companion when neededAssists in the admission, transfer and discharge processPerforms unit housekeeping needsActs as a runner/transporterChecks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnelUpdates assigned bed statusMaintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones and alerting the correct personKeeps patient environment clean, Performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, no food or drink at the workstation, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautionsCommunicates with patient's family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional mannerActs as receptionist for the unit; has limited use of the hospital information systems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of the unit. This can include, but not limited to: consulting in EPIC, navigate through EPIC, discharge patients, put milestones into tele tracking, maintain paper charts and checking on MD ordersRemoves saline locksOrder floor stock and puts it awayPerform 12 lead EKGs where unit allowsOther duties as assigned by managerThe job summary and responsibilities listed above are designed to indicate the general nature of the work performed within this job. Your success in this role comes from your genuine desire to help patients feel better, whether that means giving them fresh bed linens or checking their vitals. You're diligent about your tasks, observant of patients' conditions improving or declining, and accept coaching well.Key Responsibilities Include:Check-in with the outgoing patient care assistant at the beginning of your shift to get a report on your patients.Conduct hourly rounds checking vitals, maintaining whiteboard information, and assisting with care as needed.Assist patients with ambulating as necessary. This may mean helping them reach a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom, or down the hall. Assist released patients in getting safely to their vehicles outside.Assist patients with hygiene needs. This can include a full bed bath, an assisted bed bath, or retrieving towels and soap for ambulatory patients.Assist the bedside nurse as needed such as: holding the patient or providing the nurse with supplies, and cleaning up after.Help the bedside nurse with any wound checks or dressing changes.Change bed linens, check patients' weight, other tasks as assigned each day.We're offering a $3,000 sign on bonus for new hires that meet eligibility requirements.Welcome to Saint Joseph East, a 217-bed, full-service, community hospital located in a convenient setting in Lexington, Kentucky.
