Jefferson Law Center is a rapidly growing Medical Malpractice - Plaintiff's firm.


We focus on medical malpractice and catastrophic loss cases. Additionally, we specialize in birth trauma cases. Our firm is small, with two attorneys and three paralegals, and is looking to grow as our caseload grows.


Located in the Heart of the Nautical Mile on Jefferson Ave in St. Clair Shores, we are committed to defending the 7th Amendment and the Constitutional right to seek judicial redress for injuries wrongfully inflicted. This is an on-site job, reporting to our office in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.


Responsibilities:

  • This regular, full-time, non-exempt position will represent our clients at every stage of medical malpractice and personal injury litigation, including pre-suit investigations, discovery, pre-trial proceedings, trials, and appeals.
  • Investigating the facts surrounding the medical care and treatment rendered in medical malpractice cases, including birth injury claims
  • Preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, notices of intent, discovery requests, case evaluation summaries, and demand letters
  • Researching the law and medicine associated with each case
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in paper and our electronic filing system
  • Analyzing and summarizing medical records, deposition transcripts, answers to interrogatories, and other material
  • Write Complaints, NOIs, discovery material, and other materials as assigned
  • Initiate and take depositions of defendants, plaintiffs, and experts
  • Meeting with clients and other professionals to discuss details of the case
  • Interviewing medical experts and witnesses
  • Attending federal and state court proceedings
  • Participating in firm activities, meetings, and events
  • Assist with other external marketing and administrative duties as needed


Qualifications:

  • Experience preferred but not required, 0-3 years. Will train as needed
  • JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admittance to the Michigan Bar Preferred (Will Accept Those Waiting for Bar Results)
  • Superior writing skills and competency in legal and medical literature research
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to empathize with emotional and distraught individuals seeking legal assistance
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, notations, and records; anatomical drawings; laboratory tests; and medications; and the ability to explain or illustrate diagnoses of medical conditions
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced litigation environment
  • Ability to work remotely or at home, if requested
  • Experience with case management systems such as Practice Master or Clio is a plus.


Business hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, but additional work may be necessary.
