· Simulation and design of semiconductor lasers, including optical, electrical, and thermal performance.
· Development of novel semiconductor laser materials and designs.
· Developing laser control algorithms and characterizing performance.
· Development of appropriate test plans in coordination with our in-house test engineers.
· Design and execute experiments to characterize and optimize laser performance
· Integrate into the Analog Photonics workflow, which includes Lumerical, Cadence, Photon Design (Harold), COMSOL, etc.
· Communicate with foundries to develop manufacturable photonic devices
· Interface with packaging service suppliers and communicate technical requirements
· Generate reports for internal deliverables and external customer interactions
· Execute current and new projects from start to finish
· Contribute technically to new funding opportunities
Required Qualifications
· PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or equivalent, OR master's degree and 3 years postgraduate work experience.
· Experience with integrated photonics design and/or development.
· Experience with semiconductor laser simulations and analysis, including optical gain and loss, electrical carriers, waveguide design, etc.
· Familiarity with laser fabrication and testing.
· Experience with III-V laser epitaxy design is highly desired.
· Familiarity with DFB, DBR, and tunable laser design is preferred.
· Familiarity with silicon photonics external laser cavity design is preferred.
· Experience implementing laser feedback control systems such as PDH locking is preferred.
Desired Qualifications
· Deep and comprehensive understanding of laser physics
· Digital Control Systems
· Chip-Scale Optoelectronics Packaging
· III-V Gain material design
· Mask layout and taping out photonic devices in a foundry setting
· Experience with qualification process for automotive or industrial parts
· Control and automation of lab equipment
