GENERAL DUTIES:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is a caregiver who performs various nursing functions, closely monitoring patients' medical and nursing status under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director. The LVN provides care to adults with acquired brain injuries, overseeing their medical needs until discharge. Responsibilities include observing and documenting patient behavior, providing training to staff, ensuring patient safety, and communicating with the healthcare team and families.

The LVN educates patients on various health topics, such as diabetes management and healthy living, and offers support to clinical and therapeutic assistants as required by regulatory bodies.

The LVN upholds the organization's mission while maintaining confidentiality of personnel and client information.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide specified nursing services to patients.
  • Assist in emergency situations and administer first aid.
  • Educate staff on health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor patient medication administration.
  • Document patient responses.
  • Conduct patient education sessions.
  • Act as a role model for patients and staff.
  • Attend relevant meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Assist in admission/discharge procedures.
Organizational Duties:

Maintain medical documentation, act as a liaison between healthcare professionals and staff, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Provide on-call support and uphold health, safety, and nursing procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Current Texas LVN license.
  • Knowledge of TBI and related conditions.
  • Ability to work well in a clinical setting.
  • Flexibility, innovation, and good judgment.
  • CPR certification.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency procedures.
  • Flexibility in work hours and tasks.
Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a valid LVN license in Texas. CPR certification and a valid Texas driver's license required.

Experience:

Prefer 2 years of post-graduate nursing experience, especially in rehabilitation or mental health settings.
