Editor/Senior EditorThe Editor/Senior Editor for Hanover Square is responsible for soliciting, acquiring and editing manuscripts in genres such as biography, business, history, journalism, memoir, pop culture, psychology, science and true crime, as well as high-concept fiction - including crime, horror, literary, sci-fi/fantasy, speculative novels and works in translation. The Editor/Senior Editor is a key representative for the imprint and must work closely with numerous internal departments as well as the author and agent communities. This is an exciting opportunity to cultivate a list and work with an innovative publishing team with a proven track of success.ResponsibilitiesSolicits, acquires, edits, and guides the publishing strategy for commercial fiction and nonfiction books in accordance with the imprint's vision.Oversees books through all phases of the publishing process from acquisition to on-sale and beyond, acting as the in-house liaison with internal departments (marketing, publicity, sales, art, production, contracts, etc.)Develops and executes a clear and commercial publishing vision for titles, including launch presentations, cover direction, etc.Keeps an eye on current trends and develops book ideas with broad sales potential.Fosters existing and new agent relationships.Writes copy for use on cover, galleys, marketing, etc.Maintains knowledge of competitive marketplace and monitors self-published space for opportunities and trends.Acts as a key representative for the imprint both internally and externally with agents, scouts, foreign publishers, and media.Occasional attendance at conferences and fairs.Develops homegrown, reverse-engineered book projects with an eye towards revenue potential.QualificationsUndergraduate Degree5+ years of publishing or related experience with a proven track record of acquisition in nonfiction and fictionKeen eye for commercial books with strong sales potentialA commitment to publishing books from a diverse range of voices and perspectives.Excellent editorial and copy writing skills.Broad list of agent contacts, with specific emphasis on those who represent categories that match the imprint's focus.Strong negotiation skills along with knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&LsThe opportunity to be part of a company on the leading edge of publishing, working with a very talented team and exceptional booksSummer Hours from late May to early SeptemberHybrid work, flexible start/stop timesPaid time off days and vacation allotment, starting at three weeks (prorated based on start date)Flexible benefit plans to fit your needs and pension matchingWorking with passionate peopleHanover Square Press, an imprint of Harlequin/HarperCollins, draws its name from what was once known as "Printing House Square" in Manhattan, home to the early American printers, publishers, and booksellers who thrived in the 1700s and early 1800s.
