Family Foster Care WAY Coach

Position Overview: Provides mentor support to adolescents preparing youth for adulthood. As a WAY Coach, staff works to recruit, engage and support the young people of the Working Alongside Youth (WAY) Fair Futures program in progressing towards their education, work and savings goals. The Coach will work with our Depts’ youth advocate to Facilitate weekly workshops where youth participating in the program will strengthen their independent living skills. Coaches will be responsible for :1 coaching, and assisting in areas of social, education, employment, with emphasis on social and networking development as well as data entry into Care4 and Connections system. The goal of the program is to help build positive peer relationships and strengthen social transitions for young people exiting foster care. Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s strongly preferred or Minimum 2 years or more experience working with at-risk youth. Demonstrate initiative and creativity, particularly with adolescents. Demonstrate experience in group work. Demonstrate understanding of the issues of the NYC community. Demonstrate understanding of the issues facing Black and Latino adolescents. Ability to work as a team member and independently. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth and staff. Demonstrate ability to effectively use a multi-cultural approach in working with special needs youth. Excellent oral communication skills. Valid NYS driver’s license preferred.
