Primary Objective of Position


Provides technical leadership for engineering and project teams, by acting as a primary resource for technical proposals, issues, standards and procedures. In addition, the Principal Engineer is the resource for establishing engineering direction on new projects and contributing to management, sales and applications efforts, engineering, assembly and debug as required.


Major Areas of Accountability


Technical Leadership

Leads quote team in the development of concepts and supports formal quotes and cost estimates.

Leads project team in project execution through delivery.

Leads risk assessment of cost, performance and schedule during quoting and execution phases of project.

Provides technical consultation to Engineers and Project Managers on design specifications, progress, risk, communications and execution in support of projects.

Participates in the quote process for management review, utilizing appropriate quote development tools.

Participates in the appropriate vendor selection as part of the quote development process.

Participates in identifying and matching skills to current requirements.

Participates in identifying new technologies and training requirements for current technologies.

Business Support/Development

  • Provides technical leadership in ongoing sales activities.
  • Keeps current with new technologies and new ideas/trends in the industry.
  • Identifies, justifies and implements new engineering methods, standards and technologies in support of business goals and objectives.
  • Interfaces directly with customers, both from a technical and selling standpoint.

  • Participates in employee development efforts to insure professional and personal growth as well as helping to make sure that the technical skills of employees keep pace with the requirements of the business.
  • Supports an environment that motivates and inspires employees to achieve their potential.
  • Leads by example, demonstrating the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
  • Supports Sales and Marketing technical initiatives.


Essential Qualifications


A four‑year engineering degree in a related field and at least eight years of related experience, or a two‑year mechanical design degree and at least 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of two years past experience directing technical teams/engineers.

Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.Fluent in the English language.

Broad knowledge of machine design process, automation applications and technologies.

Demonstrated knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.

Must be able to travel, occasionally overnight, including air travel.


Desired Qualifications


Professional Engineering registration.

Advanced Degree in applicable field.

Previous supervisory/management experience.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Demonstrated knowledge of one or more CAD application programs (i.e. AutoCAD, SolidWorks).


ADA Requirements


Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer

Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally

Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally

Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
