QUALIFICATIONS: Current PA Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse License Current CPR/AED certificate Required state and federal clearances ESSENTIAL SKILLS/PREDISPOSITION: Ability to reach above and below the waist Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects Some stooping, bending and twisting of the body required Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 30 lbs Ability to aid patients/students in personal hygiene as needed Ability to transfer, lift and move patients safely while maintaining proper body mechanics Ability to sit, stand, walk or move throughout the building and/or office, often for extended periods of the workday Sensory Ability Visual acuity Auditory acuity Must possess excellent interpersonal skills Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions Able to make appropriate decisions and work under high level of stress Ability to communicate effectively Ability to organize tasks Ability to handle multiple tasks Ability to exercise good judgment RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Special Services Directed by: Certified School Nurse (CSN) Appropriately seeks guidance from CSN when a patient's needs exceed the LPN's scope of practice or surpasses their knowledge, skill, or ability. Seeks guidance from CSN when/if the patient's condition deteriorates or there is a significant change in condition, the patient is not responding to therapy, the patient becomes unstable or the patient needs immediate assistance. Knowledge of current nursing practices, relevant statutes and regulations Administers first aid to injured students and or faculty Document and report as appropriate Update parent contact, incident report, health room logs Nursing assessment of students or faculty with complaints of illness or injury Maintains documentation of all care rendered Nursing notes should be clear, concise and accurate Notifies parent/guardian when necessary for a student who is injured and given care and/or needs medical attention Initiate the emergency response system, 911, for severe illnesses, injuries or allergic reactions Completes accident reports promptly and accurately Administer medication as ordered by a health practitioner and documents Maintains communication with the Nurse (CSN) of changes in the health of the student population This includes newly diagnosed chronic illness, severe injuries, use of Epi-Pen, student prescribed emergency medication administration, parent conflict and all matters she feels is pertinent Assists the school nurses, physicians, dental hygienists, and other health personnel in their work, including maintaining the school health record of each student Assist with scheduling students for PE/Dental exams Schedule, perform, document, and communicate to parent vision, hearing, & scoliosis screenings, and height and weight measurements as required by state mandates Assists the Nurse (CSN) with all student health inspections (Vision, Hearing, Body Mass Index, Hearing, Height, Weight) Assist the Nurse (CSN) with Communicable Disease Control communication and reporting Assist with health inspections Advises teachers and students about procedures and schedules of health exams under the guidance of CSN. Takes In-Service Courses and/or training to remain current in medical techniques and procedures Performs all related tasks as requested by the administration and nurse (CSN).
