Data Protection Officer – Associate Counsel

MISSION

Lead Alegeus’ overall data protection program and strategy, monitor compliance to protect partners’ and participants’ private data, support Alegeus’ overall Risk, Compliance and Regulatory programs and provide legal advice to Alegeus, including negotiating partner and vendor agreements. Assist in the protection of Alegeus’ legal interests and maintain operations within scope of law.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine the inherent risk of handling partner and member data.
  • Monitor how personal data related to partners and members cycles through our products.
  • Perform security audits on a standard schedule.
  • Become the primary contact to engage with various authorities governing data protection.
  • Provide employee training and educate members of the organization.
  • Measure company performance related to protecting data and aiding when required.
  • Create an in-depth log of records detailing protection initiatives by Alegeus.
  • Assist in enhancing Alegeus Risk, Regulatory and Compliance efforts, including preparing, reviewing and implementing related policies and procedures.
  • Review, negotiate and advise on a variety of agreements, including client contracts and vendor agreements.
  • Act as Data Protection Officer and legal business partner to the organization.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS required.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar.
  • Minimum of 10 - 15 years of applicable law practice experience.
  • Experience with cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with relevant data collection and data storage processes.
  • Experience with security reporting.
  • Experience in compliance and healthcare / HIPAA, fintech and non-bank trustee regulations.
  • Experience with private equity-backed, fast paced, unstructured environments experiencing rapid change and operating with stretched resources.
  • Energetic, self starter, forward-thinking, composed and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
