Job Description Under the direction and supervision of the Community Development Director, this is a professional level position that performs a variety of work including, but not limited to, land use, development and transportation planning, all areas of planning and zoning, processing and reviewing development documents, and special projects utilizing related software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and GIS. The position requires heavy interaction with developers and the general public, and good customer service skills are a must. This position serves as the staff liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission and is responsible for the preparation and posting of the agenda, preparing the packet for the Commissioners, attending all meetings of the Commission, and preparing the minutes of each meeting. This does not encompass all the essential duties of the position and will require the performance of other duties as assigned. The position does not include direct supervisory responsibility but may exercise management of team members. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, or related field; minimum 3-5 years progressively responsible planning experience; or an equivalent of education, training, and experience. An American Institute of Certified Planners certification (AICP) is required. Must be a member in good standing of the American Planning Association (APA). Special Requirements MUST have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of city planning and development review; MUST have good customer service skills; Required to work extended and irregular hours; Requires the ability to read and acquire knowledge of various municipal ordinances, codes, and regulations; Skill in utilizing modern office equipment and software applications (i.e., computers, copiers, Word, Excel or other spreadsheet programs, and GIS); Ability to independently and effectively plan, organize, and carry out research projects (complex and moderately complex) and oral and written presentations; Must have considerable knowledge in the preparation, use, and reading of maps, charts, sketches, and complex graphics.
