Position Overview:

This position exists to maintain plant production equipment by performing repairs and preventive maintenance on automation instrumentation on plant production equipment.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform systematic preventive maintenance of electrical adjustments, inspections, and repairs as necessary.
  • Ability to perform all necessary maintenance tasks to production lines. Rebuilds of equipment, equipment upgrades, and maintaining equipment to ensure maximum efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement plans of action and work with Maintenance Planner to accomplish tasks/repairs.
  • Execute preventive and predictive work for all production equipment.
  • Diagnose problems when machinery malfunctions, conduct electrical repairs (i.e., wiring), complete work orders, monitor production equipment.
  • Maintain all the process control systems, calibrate all critical control equipment and document findings, evaluate PLC equipment, programs and integrate the PLC systems.
  • Set up and implement preventive maintenance procedure for process control systems (PLC)
  • Identify areas to be improved in the process systems, make recommendations, and implement approved changes.
  • Backup SCADA, wastewater, PLC, variable frequency drive systems.
  • Order Allen-Bradley parts, as needed.
  • Train maintenance personnel (PLC and Electronic equipment).
  • Complete calibration, projects, and equipment status reports.
  • Work closely with contractors on new electrical and electronic installs.
  • Training of other mechanics in diagnosis and repair of PLC issues.
  • Mentor line operators in preventive maintenance practices.
  • Provide technical expertise on project teams.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Comply with Safety Policies and Procedures.


Advanced Electrical:

  • Knowledge of three phase/alternating current and its purpose/function
  • Rewiring/hard wire motors, servos, pumps, and other equipment in the plant
  • Run wiring/install conduit/replace power receptacles.
  • The ability to create/draw basis schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Display the knowledge of how to draw a simple motor control circuit with remote start/stop.
  • The knowledge of how to read and understand schematics/blueprints.


PLC Functions and Troubleshooting:

Advanced PLC experience

  • Knowledge of automation of electromechanical processes
  • Install new programs/reformat and make changes to existing programs.
  • Knowledge/function of/ability to repair sensors, senders, electrical eyes and identifying visual faults.
  • The ability to fix PLC faults as needed/work with production associates to correct any issues.
  • Perform systematic preventive maintenance of electrical adjustment, inspections, and repairs as necessary.
  • Proficient skills and knowledge of automation controls: photo eyes, proximity and ultrasonic sensors and motor controls.
  • Understand schematics and diagrams of relay logic.
  • The ability and knowledge to program PLC
  • Knowledge of how to communicate with the PLC system via Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, or RS-422 cabling.
  • Debugging the PLC software
  • Entry and editing of the ladder-style programming software.
  • Understanding sequential relay, motion, process and distributed controls and their functions in the manufacturing setting
  • Knowledge of I/O points, digital and analog point of connection
  • Using P2P and SCADA as communication links to PLC
  • Understand HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and it’s set up and function.


Hands on Mechanical and Electrical:

  • Assist production on plant shutdown and startup.
  • Knowledge of VFD (Variable Frequency Drives) and its function, resetting faults and turn on and off
  • Properly troubleshoot/diagnose both electrical and mechanical systems to maintain production line performance.
  • Knowledge of a variety of hand, power, and machine tools.


Computer Hardware and Software:

  • The ability to connect a portable computer/device as needed to make adjustments and repairs to production equipment.
  • Knowledge of multiple input/output arrangements and other computerized programs needed to complete tasks.
  • The process for updating software revisions or new versions.
  • Knowledge of state and ladder logic and troubleshooting
  • Advanced network mapping and programming (assist with office computer set up as needed)


Training/Outside Vendors:

  • Makes sure contractors working in the plant are being safe while performing their duties.
  • Work with vendors to create training and training aids when a job is to be done (i.e., new equipment setup and operating information)
  • Plan, schedule, and track jobs to be outsourced during and up to completion of tasks/repairs.


JHS (Job Hazard Analysis):

  • Understanding the importance of hazard analysis
  • Maintaining a safe work habit/work area
  • Must be able to carry responsibility in their work area and surrounds.
  • Make sure others are being safe while performing their duties.


General Safety:

  • Proper use of PPE and what PPE to use when working with certain chemicals/lubrications/electrical situations.
  • Safety regulations, roles, and responsibilities


Chemical Knowledge and Handling:

  • Knowledge of where to find SDS and process of entering new chemicals into the system.
  • Understanding information on Chemicals
  • Report on any Chemical issues
  • Chemical Safety/Knowledge of chemicals use in the Maintenance department and what the risk factors are.
  • Proper Chemical Storage, Labeling, and Disposal (used grease, oil, and hydraulic fluids)


Working Overtime or Temporary Assignment on Alternate Shifts:

  • Different shift assignment on an “As needed basis”
  • Fill in as a line operator when needed/ cover for breaks and lunches.
  • Work different shifts to complete repairs/tasks/shutdown, etc.….
  • The ability to work overtime or temporary assignments.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and comprehend specifics regarding equipment problems.
  • Computer skills for ordering parts and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend equipment manuals, safety regulations, and operating instructions.
  • Ability to complete necessary reports.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, reach and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Body agility (occasional climbing, kneeling, reaching).
  • Walking and standing on plant production floor for extended periods of time.
