WaferWire is currently seeking a Linux Kernel Developer to join the team. The team specializes in crafting a bespoke Linux operating system for validation purposes and requires assistance with general Linux and Kernel development tasks. This role involves delivering validation support across various projects and teams concurrently. It offers an opportunity to engage in crafting an in-house custom Linux validation OS to bolster a specific initiative while contributing to the evolution of Azure hardware products.


Role: Linux Kernel Developer

Location: Onsite (Hillsboro, OR)


Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Kernel Development Contractor to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Linux kernel development, device driver development, and Linux distribution development.


In this role, you will:

  • Develop and maintain Linux kernel modules and device drivers.
  • Work on Linux kernel memory management, load, and boot process.
  • Contribute to Linux virtualization development.
  • Utilize software development tools such as compilers and git.
  • Create and manage Debian packages.
  • Work with the Yocto build system.
  • The role will consist of 20% meetings and 80% development.


Qualifications: (Technical Skills)

  • Strong experience in Linux kernel development and device driver development.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux kernel memory management, load, and boot process.
  • Experience with Linux virtualization technologies.
  • Proficiency in software development tools such as compilers and git.
  • Experience with Debian package creation and management.
  • Familiarity with the Yocto build system.


Top 3 Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years experience with Linux kernel module development.
  • Minimum 4 years experience with Linus compiler development experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with RPM or Debian package development and management.
