Our AI team is developing innovative features like Demand Planning, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation that are based on both traditional ML models and cutting-edge LLM capabilities. We seek a seasoned Elixir engineer—ideally a true polyglot who views programming languages as tools—capable of integrating AI functions seamlessly into our core platform. As a Senior AI Software Engineer, you will combine deep technical knowledge with practical AI/ML integration experience. Working closely with our Director of AI Products, you will architect and develop AI-driven features, collaborate with Data Scientists to understand model requirements, and partner with ML Engineers to create seamless integrations between our ML infrastructure and core services. This hands-on position plays a crucial role in embedding AI capabilities as a focal point of our broader platform. You will work on essential features such as demand forecasting APIs, intelligent routing services, and real-time prediction engines, while also influencing how AI interacts with our core logistics platform and the tools we use internally. What You'll Do: AI Platform Integration: Develop robust Elixir services that utilize ML predictions from platforms like Modal.com, Vertex AI, and others. Integrate products with edge-based inference where applicable. Create fault-tolerant systems that can manage service failures and provide intelligent fallback solutions. Employ caching and optimization strategies for AI feature serving. Construct real-time data pipelines using Kafka and Elixir processes to power ML models. Production AI Features: Build Demand Planning services that connect forecasting models with inventory management. Create intelligent routing systems that apply ML predictions for optimal logistics decisions. Design real-time anomaly detection services for monitoring supply chains. Develop AI-powered recommendation engines for logistics optimization. Design and build APIs for LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, Workers AI, etc.) with effective rate limiting and error handling. Platform Architecture & Scalability: Architect distributed systems capable of managing millions of AI-powered logistics transactions. Establish comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions. Develop developer tools and abstractions that simplify the integration of AI capabilities for other engineers. Create management for configuration and feature flagging for experiments. Optimize performance and cost-efficiency throughout the platform. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with the Director of AI Products on architectural decisions and technical strategy. Work alongside Data Scientists to grasp model inputs, outputs, and limitations. Team up with ML/Data Engineers to ensure seamless deployment integration of models. Support product teams in introducing AI features in their respective areas. Mentor fellow engineers on AI tool usage and best integration practices. What You'll Need: Expertise in Elixir/Phoenix (2+ years) with a proven track record in building and scaling production systems. Experience with TypeScript (2+ years) and versatility in choosing the best tools for varied tasks. Strong understanding of Distributed Systems, including fault tolerance, supervision trees, and OTP patterns. Proficient in API Design & Integration, with experience in building and utilizing RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures. Advanced SQL skills with PostgreSQL; familiarity with AlloyDB is a plus. Experience with message queue systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar platforms. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP, AWS, or Azure. Background in Performance Optimization, particularly in high-throughput, low-latency systems. Required Soft Skills: A production mindset that prioritizes reliability and user impact over perfection in code. Systems thinking to understand how AI features integrate into the comprehensive platform architecture. Ability to communicate technical decisions and trade-offs effectively to diverse audiences. Collaborative approach and enjoyment in teamwork. Adaptability and eagerness to learn about evolving AI/ML technologies and tools. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, etc.). Experience with TypeScript, showcasing the ability to work across Elixir, TypeScript, and Python to select the best tool for the job. Familiarity with Cloudflare Workers/AI or other edge computing platforms. Knowledge of event sourcing. Understanding of feature stores and real-time ML service applications. Experience with Modal.com, Vertex AI, or similar ML platforms. Familiarity with logistics, e-commerce, or supply chain sectors. Experience in GenAI applications and prompt engineering. Expertise in vector databases and semantic search. Contributions to open-source projects in Elixir, TypeScript, or AI domains. Experience in A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.
