Residential Construction And Zoning InspectorBuilding Development Services is seeking candidates for the position of Residential Construction and Zoning Inspector. This position performs a variety of inspections and enforces applicable codes focused on housing complaints related to residential construction and/or zoning issues including zoning, City Code and building code requirements. Inspection work is primarily related to residential building, electrical, mechanical, gas and plumbing codes and City Codes and/or ordinances.Qualifications and RequirementsExperience, Education, and Training:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related area;ANDTwo years of experience in the field of building code enforcement, plan review, or building design and construction.Directly related experience in construction trade, inspection or plan review work dealing with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and/or housing may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis;Other combinations of comparable education and experience will be reviewed and evaluated for equivalency.Licensing/Certification:Must possess a valid driver's license;Must possess or obtain within first two years of appointment as a Residential Construction & Zoning Inspector and maintain certification as an International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Inspector or Certified Residential Building Inspector depending on assignment including plumbing, mechanical, gas and electrical;Must obtain and maintain certification as a zoning inspector from the American Association of Code Enforcement or ICC Certified Property Maintenance Inspector depending on assignment within probationary period.FunctionsFor more information on essential functions and other requirements, please see the job description.Other RequirementsEqual Opportunity Employer/Disability and Vet:The City of Springfield promotes equal employment opportunities to all without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, status as a protected veteran, or status as a qualified individual with a disability, or other legally protected status.
