PRN Bilingual Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)Quantum Pain and Orthopedic- McAllen (78503) is looking for a PRN Bilingual Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join the teamThe Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the pre-operative patient, as well as developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.Essential Functions:Maintains a clean and therapeutic pre-operative environment for all patients at all timesProvides instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistantEnsures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working orderAdmits the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the scheduled procedureMakes initial assessment, identifies patient's physical and mental status, determines the nursing needs of the patientExplains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxietyMonitors patient's medical condition, reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologistAssures that surgical consent, pre-operative test results, and History and Physical are documented in the medical record before the procedurePerforms pre-op and post-op calls to patientsCommunicates additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment)Educates patients and family, gives patients and family members emotional support as necessaryReports any important health history facts to the operating room nurse/medical directorDocuments patient care delivered, accurately in the medical recordImplements doctor's orders in a timely and accurate mannerMaintains established Center/Departmental policies and proceduresMaintains confidentiality of patient and Center related businessDevelops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and other staffDocuments concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policyPlans for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situationsCompletes patient care responsibilities in a timely manner with accurate documentationUses downtime efficiently, helps and responds positively to requests for assistance from team membersPerforms other job duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration)Excellent, professionally polished patient communication and interaction skills to practice collaborative nursingPractices nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actionsAbility to adequately diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient conditionDemonstrates clinical problem solving and critical thinking, makes decisions using evidence based analytical approachAdapts to unexpected changes, effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of careComputer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & E-ClinicalStrong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasksMaintain composure, keeps emotions in check, controls anger, avoids aggressive behavior, even in difficult situationsAbility to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patient's condition changesAbility to deal calmly and effectively with high stress situationsAbility to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things doneAbility to maintain effective records and organized systems to ensure timely patient flowAbility to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipmentExceptional customer service and phone etiquetteEnergetic with a desire to learn and develop new skillsCompliance with facility policies, procedures, continuing and mandatory education programsEducation and Experience:High School diploma or GEDOne (1) year of experience in a medical office settingCurrent LVN licensure in the State of TexasBasic Life Support (BLS) certifiedAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifiedQuantum Pain and Orthopedics is a premier outpatient clinical network serving the San Antonio and Austin, TX areas.
