The PMHNP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral/mental disorders. Assigned clinical programs may include, and are not limited to, outpatient behavioral health clinics, school-based services, crisis services, substance abuse services, and rehabilitative programs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prescribes, directs, or administers psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Orders, analyzes and evaluates patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder.
  • Collaborates with an integrated team to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  • Performs psychiatric assessments and evaluations.
  • Provides services using a combination of in-person, telephone, and video (telehealth/telemedicine) as required/directed.
  • Provides unscheduled and or emergent services as needed for walk-in, open-access, and crisis clients at any time during scheduled shifts.
  • Designs, executes or approves individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.
  • Prescribes and monitor medications and other treatments.
  • Participates in care planning and coordination meetings to facilitate care process as requested.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current and valid licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/PMHNP in NY or transferable license to NYS.
  • Previous experience providing psychotherapy to adults and/or children preferred.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria.
  • Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques.
  • Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge with PC applications and electronic medical records strongly preferred.
