Plant Manager OpportunityOur client, a machine shop located on the southeast side of Chicago, seeks an experienced Plant Manager to lead operations for a small, 15-person team. The plant manager plans, directs, and coordinates all plant operations including plant policies, procedures, and production goals. This is a 1st shift opportunity. This position offers medical, dental, and retirement benefits.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned:Leads company efforts to implement and support best safety practices. Ensures a clean, safe work environment.Plans and oversees workflow to optimize day-to-day operations and ensure that quality products are manufactured within delivery expectations.Programs CNC machines as needed.Knows how to operate common machine shop equipment including manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, cutting tools, and drill presses. Keeps current on technology and equipment advances. Can best utilize equipment for optimal production.Reviews and/or assists with quotes prepared by Estimators, monitors project win/loss ratios and plant profitability.Manages quality, productivity, and profitability. Reviews the financial statements, sales reports, and other data to measure and ensure consistent, sustainable performance.Ensures company systems are implemented and followed to track, monitor, and respond to Key Performance Indicators.Monitors equipment and building maintenance to ensure performance and longevity.Oversees inventory of metal, tooling, and production supplies to meet production demands and budget requirements.Assists with plant budget preparation. Administers control of all cost centers within budgetary guidelines and financial operating plans.Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Education and Experience: Must have high school diploma or equivalent; 4-year college degree highly preferred. 7+ years experience in machining, tooling, and CNC programming (preferably G-Code), and 3+ years experience in a manufacturing supervisory role. Experience in Mastercam or similar.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Accepts responsibility and accountability for the successful implementation of all the positions projects, programs, and duties.Is proficient in using Epicor ERP system.Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency towards completion.Identifies and solves problems in a timely manner.Builds and sustains strong relationships with staff and customers.Able to coach and mentor others to improve their knowledge and skills, encourage and motivate, and provide guidance and direction.Leads by example and demonstrates fair and consistent treatment of all employees.Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.Has professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Possesses strong negotiation skills.Able to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and to learn other computer systems as needed.Physical Requirements: Constantly required to sit, walk, and stand. Frequently required to reach, bend, twist, and use both hands for simple and gross grasping and fine manipulation. Must be able to see at near and far distances. May occasionally lift to 20 pounds.
