Corrections Information Council AppointmentAppointed by Mayor, confirmed by Council2 yearsDistrict residency requiredNo (all roles are voluntary)The Corrections Information Council is mandated to inspect and monitor the conditions of confinement in the correctional facilities where DC residents are incarcerated. This includes facilities under the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the DC Department of Corrections (DOC.) The CIC does not provide direct services, and it does not act as a personal attorney or provide legal representation or advice. The CIC is not an advocacy group, nor is it an extension of correctional agencies. Through its facility inspections, confidential inmate interviews, and ongoing communication with incarcerated DC residents, loved ones, correctional agencies, and other stakeholders, the CIC offers assessments of facilities, programs, policies, and other conditions, with recommendations for corrective action if needed. These reports of findings and recommendations are provided to the Mayor, the Council for the District of Columbia, DC Congressional representatives, the correctional agencies, and the communityThe Board shall be composed of 5 members, 3 of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council, and one of whom shall be appointed by the Council. The Council of the District of Columbia makes additional appointments to this board. Please note, consideration for this posting and limited to nominations made by the Mayor of the District of Columbia.All members shall be residents of the District of Columbia. Must have strong knowledge of the issues impacted incarcerated and returning citizens.
