Valar Atomics is a startup in El Segundo, CA. We aim to synthesize liquid hydrocarbon fuels using process heat from nuclear fission, unlocking the potential of fission to make abundant carbon-neutral energy.


We're hiring a Senior Machinist to build out our machine shop and make parts for our nuclear reactors.


Responsibilities

As our first machinist, you will play a pivotal role in establishing our engineering culture. You will design and build our machine shop, specifying equipment to be purchased and purchasing it. You will fabricate parts using the full suite of tools available in modern manufacturing. You'll work closely with our mechanical and materials engineers to ensure parts are manufacturable and performant. You will help identify vendors to supply parts that cannot or should not be made internally. And you'll assist in hiring and managing other machinists as our team grows.


Qualifications

A desire to make a future where energy is clean and abundant.

In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques.

Experience with high-temperature alloys and ceramics.

Exceptional attention to detail.


This is a full-time position at our headquarters in the Los Angeles area, with salary and equity dependent upon experience.
