It's a place where public service careers are supported by a strong sense of community and purpose and where motivated professionals can grow, contribute, and be part of something meaningful.About the Position: The Police Dispatch Supervisor oversees, assigns, and participates in dispatching Police and other City personnel. This role includes monitoring, supervising, and ensuring work quality and compliance with established policies and procedures. This position will require working a varied work shift that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.Qualified candidates must successfully complete a police background investigation as part of the pre-employment exams.What You'll Be Doing Here:Supervisory Skills: Ability to plan, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned staff. Proficiency in performance evaluation, coaching, and taking disciplinary actions.Communication and Coordination: Expertise in monitoring and overseeing communications between callers, dispatchers, and police units. Strong skills in resolving complaints and assisting with complex or non-routine calls.Technology Proficiency: Knowledge of dispatch equipment, including computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, automated telephone systems, and 800 MHz radio systems.Geographic Knowledge: Familiarity with the geography of the City, including the location of streets, specific buildings, trouble areas, and hazards.Administrative Skills: Knowledge in managing payroll, scheduling, and related administrative details for dispatch staff.A Day in the Life: As a Police Dispatcher Supervisor, your day is fast-paced and focused on ensuring smooth operations in the Communications Center. The supervisor provides guidance, resolves issues, reviews reports, and ensures accuracy and professionalism in all communications. They also coach staff, address technical or service concerns, and maintain communication with officers in the field. Each shift ends by completing reports and ensuring the next team is fully briefed and ready to respond.What You Need to Qualify:Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D AND at least three (3) years of progressively responsible public safety dispatch communications experience, at least one (1) of which was in a lead capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.A valid State driver's license is required.Typing speed of 30 words per minute is required.Successful completion of P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher course.Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Employees work in a communications dispatch center, and the noise level is generally loud except during periods of low dispatch activity. High activity periods, escalated calls from difficult individuals and intense response situations can create highly stressful working conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone/radio; use hands repetitively to manipulate, handle, and feel computers and standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk and may be required to lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear in the normal audio range by telephone/radio and to differentiate operating equipment sounds.Recruitment Timeline: This recruitment will close on Sunday, November 30, 2025, or until a sufficient number of applications have been received.
