Laboratory Director

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage operations, programs, and activities to align with organizational and regulatory standards while fostering innovation.
  • Ensure the department is staffed with qualified personnel by overseeing hiring, orientation, competency assessments, training, performance feedback, and management.
  • Mentor and develop staff through coaching and regular performance evaluations.
  • Act as a role model for exemplary employee performance and behavior.
  • Formulate and implement departmental strategies to achieve goals related to service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, and personnel management.
  • Actively seek and integrate feedback from both internal and external sources to enhance departmental performance and care delivery.
  • Oversee the laboratory’s financial operations, including monitoring resource use, identifying discrepancies and opportunities, and making adjustments to meet service and financial targets. Prepare the Monthly Operating Review report.
  • Ensure adherence to standards set by accrediting bodies such as CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS. Develop and enforce policies and procedures, and ensure their annual review.
  • Manage key vendor relationships and supply contracts in coordination with Laboratory Services and Supply Chain.
  • Develop and implement a communication plan to keep department personnel informed. Promote open communication and encourage staff to provide feedback on department operations.
  • Delegate responsibilities and authority appropriately in line with regulatory guidelines. Monitor staff activities, provide management and coaching, and offer on-the-job training as needed to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with policies.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive laboratory management experience, preferably in complex laboratory settings.
  • Experience in a hospital clinical laboratory environment preferred.
  • This role requires COVID-19 vaccination as per local, state, and/or federal regulations (unless an approved medical or religious exemption is in place).
