Blood Collection Expert As a Lead Phlebotomy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supervising collection staff during blood drives and operations. You will perform essential phlebotomy and collection procedures for obtaining blood and blood components from donors, adhering to organizational policies, FDA regulations, and AABB standards. This position may involve driving a blood mobile if assigned to mobile operations. Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor collection staff at blood drives and branches, including managing breaks and meal periods. Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures. Conduct thorough medical histories and vital checks for donors and patients. Perform phlebotomy and collection tasks to gather blood or blood components. Complete shift-end responsibilities, including reviewing donor records and regulated documentation for accuracy. Assist in recruiting donors, focusing on potential apheresis and platelet candidates to meet collection goals. Ensure all collection equipment is functional and that necessary supplies are available. Monitor deferrals and staff performance to identify training needs and equipment issues. Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing any concerns raised by donor recruitment staff. Drive a blood mobile and collection vehicles to designated sites as needed. Qualifications: The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to perform the essential duties effectively. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of six months of relevant experience. Certificates and Licenses: A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is required for mobile assignments, alongside passing CDL pre-qualifications and training. CPR Certification is also needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read and comprehend safety protocols, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficient in writing reports and correspondence. Strong organizational skills for timely task completion. Capability to follow oral and written directives. Effective communication skills for presentations to groups. Ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships. Proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and understanding English. Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to commute with personal transportation. Skills to operate and drive a mobile unit if needed. Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Physical Requirements: This role involves moderately physically demanding activities, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Assistance is encouraged for moving heavier items, utilizing proper techniques and equipment. Expect tasks that may require physical agility such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Environmental Considerations: Work may take place indoors or outdoors, with potential exposure to weather elements and blood-borne pathogens. This position may involve working in close quarters on mobile units, with common vibrations and motion, alongside a moderate noise level.
