Lifeguard PositionUnder the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. They create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.Minimum Requirements:Minimum age of 16Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administrationCurrent YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (If not YMCA MUST be crossed over in first 60 days)Ability to respond in a timely manner to safety and emergency situationsExemplifies YMCA ideals and leadership qualitiesExcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsStrong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitalityResponsibilities:Maintains active surveillance of the pool areaKnows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures and completes related reports as requiredKnows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areasMaintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or local and state health department codePerforms equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as neededPerforms chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate actionMaintains branch and association certifications in CPR-O, YMCA Lifeguard, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Branch and off-site Emergency procedures, and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCAAssists as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its communityAttends all staff meetings and monthly in-service trainingOther duties as assignedShow up 15 minutes prior to shift start timeWear YMCA Approved Uniform- Red YMCA Lifeguard Shirt, solid colored shorts, swim suit, lifeguard tube with strap across chest and slack adequately controlled, fully stocked fanny pack with mask, gloves, and basic first aid, and BREAKAWAY Lanyards with whistle.YMCA Leadership Competencies (Leader): Relationships Communication Developing Others Inclusion Innovation Quality ResultsEffect on End Result: The effectiveness of this position is primarily measured by the stated satisfaction of members and ensuring a safe, clean and controlled environment in accordance with the Metro Atlanta YMCA Philosophy.Work Environment & Physical Demands: Physically perform all skills required of a Lifeguard.
