Cambridge, United States EF Education First Full time

At EF World Journeys, we believe that the best way to learn about the world is to experience it, and we strive to help as many people as possible share that experience. EF Go Ahead Tours and EF Ultimate Break are divisions of EF World Journeys and we make world travel easy. We want to empower travelers of all ages to get out there and experience something new on our guided tours. If you share this passion for opening the world, come work with us

On the World Journeys Engineering team you’ll join a group of engineers, product professionals, analysts, and UX/UI designers that build the applications and systems that make travel happen. We power every step of our customer’s journey – the e-commerce experience on the web, the platforms with which personalized itineraries are created, the mobile app that enhances the travel experience, and so much more. We also power our internal users to serve those customers as effectively as possible, and understand both tactically and strategically how effectively every aspect the business is currently operating.

How you work

All Engineers on our team are passionate about taking business opportunities from need to delivery, and about the success of the other engineers around them. As a team we build platforms and tools that allow others to quickly enact and evolve their strategies in everything from marketing journeys, through funnel conversion, and in to producing our customer’s tour experiences. We also apply this consideration to the technology choices and the developer experience we create for our own team.

On our team Lead Engineers are specialized engineers responsible for the tactical execution of our digital product strategy. Our Leads work with their Product Manager and the other engineers on the team to strategically build solutions to our most important business opportunities in an effective, performant, and scalable manner. Leads on our team are not managers, but are mentors, and partner actively with their manager to ensure code quality and best practices are met amongst engineers, and identify opportunities for guidance and growth for their team members. Similarly, leads work with the Manager and the Principal Engineer group to ensure solutions use optimal technologies and adhere to established architecture.

We consider all engineers to be invaluable to the business as collaborators who can ideate and grow for the duration of their careers. We also strongly believe in supporting the aspirations of our team members as they progress toward more experienced roles on our Manager or Staff Engineering tracks. We believe people should work where their passion is, and that a seat at the decision-making table shouldn’t be limited to those who manage people.

Who you are

  • You have a passion for seeing beyond the current business strategy or customer experience, to creating an underlying platform that can enable and support ongoing transformation
  • You enjoy partnering with analysts and strategic partners in the business to help understand, build and evolve robust core data models representing key concepts in the business
  • You enjoy partnering with other Engineering Leads across the teams to create processes to enable upstream evolution of production models while providing continuity of data needs in the core models
  • You have robust experience exploring, analyzing, and proposing technologies in the data warehouse and ETL/ELT space
  • You have experience in the Snowflake ecosystem
  • You have a dedication to building tools and services to support data discovery, lineage, resiliency and reliability across the data platform
  • Bonus points if you have experience with some of our core tools: Rivery/Fivetran, Tableau, and the MongoDB Atlas ecosystem

What you’ll do

Your first week you will...

  • Onboard as an EF employee and World Journeys engineer – and maybe finish up some related paperwork
  • Meet with your manager to set up the tech, the accounts, the meetings, and the relationships you’ll need to be successful
  • Meet your Product Manager and the rest of your team, join team meetings, explore our systems, and maybe pick up some light tactical work as time allows

Your first month you will...

  • Acquaint yourself with – and begin to take the lead on – team processes, technical standards, and how we measure success, through trainings, guidance from your manager, and your own contributions
  • Learn about your team’s projects and the business context within our travel products, through trainings, guidance from your Product Manager, and your own exploration
  • Begin shaping a professional development plan with your manager wherein you’ll grow your technical and professional knowledge and build connections to peers across our teams

Your first three months you will...

  • Work with your Product Manager and senior experienced engineers to ensure our technical architecture is poised to optimally solve business opportunities
  • Collaborate with other leads across engineering domains to ensure work is reviewed, complex data models are coherent and address the needs of the business, and technical standards across our ecosystem are continuously maintained
  • Regularly meet with your manager to reflect on the status of the team, your leadership success, and your sustained professional development
