Position Summary


Affinia Therapeutics is seeking a Veterinary Pathologist (job level will commensurate with experience) to join our Development team, reporting to the Chief Development Officer. You will be part of a team focused on performing and evaluating preclinical-stage studies that are critical in supporting our next-generation gene therapy research and development. The Veterinary Pathologist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing vital insights into toxicologic and investigative pathology studies.


This position is located at our state-of-the-art facility in Waltham, MA


Primary Responsibilities


  • Conduct gross and microscopic pathological examinations of tissues and organs from preclinical studies
  • Provide expert interpretation of histopathological findings, correlating these with clinical and laboratory data
  • Contribute to the design and execution of preclinical studies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and scientific standards
  • Prepare detailed pathology reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in the identification and validation of novel biomarkers and mechanisms of toxicity
  • Support regulatory submissions by providing pathology expertise and contributing to the preparation of documentation
  • Manage histology laboratory team
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned


Minimum Qualifications


  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DACVP)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in investigative and toxicologic pathology within the biotechnology industry
  • Extensive experience with Animal Model evaluation
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment


Preferred Qualifications


  • PhD in the life sciences
  • Experience with advanced imaging techniques and molecular pathology
  • Knowledge of GLP regulations and experience with regulatory submissions
  • AAV gene therapy experience
