JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled Solutions Engineer / Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team. As a Solutions Engineer / Database Administrator, you will be responsible for designing technical solutions and for the performance, integrity, and security of our databases. You will work closely with our analytics and IT teams to ensure that our solutions and databases meet the needs of the organization and its users.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Utilize expertise in SQL database management to design, implement, and maintain database solutions that support our logistics operations.
  • Lead the migration of on-premises servers to the cloud, with a focus on Azure Cloud platform.
  • Work closely with users to understand their technical requirements and business goals.
  • Design customized solutions that meet organization needs.
  • Create technical documentation, diagrams, and other materials to support solution proposals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that proposed solutions align with technical capabilities and best practices.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database software and related tools.
  • Monitor database performance, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and optimize query performance.
  • Ensure data integrity and security through regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and access controls.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, including database errors, connectivity issues, and performance problems.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database schemas, indexes, and other database objects.
  • Develop and implement database maintenance procedures, including data purging, archiving, and optimization.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users and other IT staff as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, and proactively recommend solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including technical specifications, process workflows, and system configurations.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This position is full-time. Employees typically work Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (with an hour lunch), 40+ hours per week, as business demands.
  • Position is expected to work outside of typical business hours as dictated by business needs.


Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Additional related training and certifications will be weighted on a case-by-case basis.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience managing SQL databases, either as an administrator or engineer.
  • Proven work experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Experience with database security best practices, including role-based access controls, encryption, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and performance tuning tools.
  • Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong technical background with a solid understanding of cloud computing, networking, and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and to design innovative solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Azure Cloud platform, with hands-on experience in migrating on-premises servers to Azure.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, including normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
