Position Summary

This position is responsible for facilitating the design, development, production, and support of engineered hydraulic installation kits. This position is primarily involved in the mechanical and electrical aspects of fluid power as it relates to mobile construction equipment for the control of hydraulic implements. An HKX engineer works in a team environment to provide and receive assistance in a collaborative effort to produce highly engineered solutions for customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support hydraulics and controls for off-road machinery (focus on excavators, wheel loaders, mini excavators, backhoe loaders, etc.)
  • Perform engineering calculations for system sizing, performance, and safety (i.e. fluid flow/pressure/temperature, material strength, basic electrical).
  • Specify and document components (both custom and commercial off-the-shelf).
  • Employ engineering specifications, standards, tools, and procedures to ensure all products and systems are designed in accordance with applicable industry codes and HKX best practices.
  • Conduct and seek peer reviews of engineering work product to ensure quality, manufacturability, and economy.
  • Participate in onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Offer mentoring to other engineers to promote their technical development and project efforts.
  • Support, lead, and influence continuous improvement activities and projects.
  • Assist with understanding, prioritizing and planning engineering project tasks.
  • Serve as engineering ambassador and technical advisor when interacting cross-functionally and externally.
  • Support, lead, and influence hands-on product development and heavy equipment research efforts.
  • Support quality initiatives as they relate to engineering.
  • Support customers with resolving installation, equipment function, and performance issues (may include domestic and international travel).
  • Identify and research opportunities for improvements to standard product, engineering processes, market footprint, and customer experience.
  • Set a high standard for efficiency and quality in standard work while demonstrating positive, cooperative, and team-focused behaviors.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field from ABET accredited university or college.
  • IFPS Fluid Power System Designer Certification is desirable.
  • 3+ years of design experience in a mechanical, hydraulic, controls, or similar environment

 

Qualifications

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are representative of those required to perform this job successfully:

  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment hydraulics and control theory, or the aptitude, ability, and willingness to quickly learn about heavy equipment hydraulics. 
  • Drafting and GD&T proficiency required. 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), data management software (ePDM preferred), and simulation/schematic software (Automation Studio preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required.
  • Any type of programming competency is highly desirable.
  • Competency with common business software (MS Office) required. Familiarity with ERP software (Sage MAS500) is beneficial.
