Job Description:

The role of the community editor is to oversee all content creation and distribution as well as community involvement in the media company’s specified hyperlocal market. This editor will be considered the company’s subject-matter expert on all things happening within the community footprint of their newspaper, website, newsletters and social channels, from business openings and local events to hot-button issues and municipal meetings. The community editor ensures that the company’s content meets the company’s quality standards and that deadlines are met, guiding reporters as needed to reach these goals. They will bring new ideas that align with and help the company achieve its bigger vision. They will be a team player, cooperating with other community editors, freelance and full-time reporters, photographers and designers to ensure that the company’s entire range of publications are meeting these standards and working cohesively.


Responsibilities

Story identification and assignment, planning, editing, writing, photography, email newsletters, social media, networking, people management and teamwork.


Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience and 2 years of experience in the field. The candidate must be proactive, organized and comfortable using technology and working with remote coworkers.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Content meets company quality standards which are clarified with checklists for each type of content.
  • Deadlines are met for all distribution channels (print, website, email and social media) throughout all stages of the planning and production process.
  • Attendance and participation at scheduled company meetings
  • Attendance and participation at select community events
