Our client specializes in metal fabrication for bespoke products supplying into multiple industry sectors such as Data Centres, Oil & Gas, Aerospace and Fortune 500 companies.


A great benefits package is on offer along with a 4 day working week This role is onsite and you must be able to commute to the base in Washington DC.


Job Description

  • Perform detailed mechanical analyses and incorporate the results in formal reports. Analysis types include product life cycle analyses (i.e. DFMEA, AFMEA, FTA), First Article Inspection, Validation and Test Reports, Failure Analyses, and other analyses as necessary to support business activities.
  • Lead product design reviews
  • Generate detailed work orders for the production team, specifying materials, components, assembly instructions, and quality requirements. Collaborate with operations managers and production supervisors to ensure work orders are clearly understood and executable.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of design outputs, including but not limited to parts drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, test and inspection procedures, and other deliverable design documentation, for new and existing products.
  • Review SolidWorks 3D / Autodesk Inventor configuration and usage practices and recommend actions to more fully utilize the capabilities of the tool.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Optimize product designs to simplify manufacturing processes, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to streamline fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, welding, and finishing.
  • Define appropriate tolerances for fabrication of material, and critical dimensions for inspection of incoming material.
  • Integrate quality assurance measures into the design process to ensure that products meet all regulatory and customer requirements from the outset.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and guidance as required to assist the professional development of Mechanical Designers, Associate Engineers, and Interns.


Skills Required

  • 4-year engineering degree (prefer Mechanical) with minimum of 10 years related work experience
  • Electrical understanding would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of industry standards related to design, inspection, and testing of sheet metal and other mechanical parts and assemblies, along with typical metal shop capabilities and practices relating to the fabrication of those items.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 (specifically around engineering change controls)
  • Familiarity ANSI/NEMA 250 and AWS beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Thorough knowledge of solid modeling software including:
  • 3D Models and Assemblies
  • Component and Assembly Drawings
  • Archiving, revision control and maintenance of models
  • Dimensioning and tolerance analyses
  • Ability to read/understand schematic drawings, panel schedules, and specifications.
  • Must be highly efficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of PDM systems
