Overview:

This position performs general household tasks and assists with the performance of activities of daily living when the clients are not able to perform the tasks themselves. Tasks are performed in accordance with a care plan and/or under the direct supervision of the patient, family member, or authorized representative. This position reports directly to the assigned Help at Home Supervisor.


Responsibilities




  1. Provides assistance with and education on household management, including the activities of daily living;
  2. Menu planning, shopping/consumerism, and meal preparation, following the plan of care and simultaneously educating the Client;
  3. Dressing and grooming the Client, including toileting, personal hygiene;
  4. Ensure a safe, healthy environment for the Client, to include notifying the supervisor with any concerns/problems staying current in CPR, First Aid and the Heimlich, and assisting the Client to maintain a healthy lifestyle; and
  5. Applying training education on the aging process to assist the Client with sleep, rest habits, understanding of changes due to aging, etc.;
  6. Turning in all paperwork, including timesheets, adhering to all Company and program deadlines;
  7. Attending all scheduled required training session;
  8. Conferencing with the supervisor at least once weekly; and
  9. Other in-home duties as assigned and/or as dictated by contract

The Homemaker is NOT PERMITTED to perform any medical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following:

•Administer shots, including insulin.

•Pour any medication or place medication in the patient’s mouth.

•Administer any enema.

•Administer eye drops.

•Change the dressing on a wound.

•Cut the patient’s finger or toenails.


Qualifications




  1. Nonprofessional supportive service experience /or/ proof of successful completion of forty (40) hours of training in a program that meets requirements /or/ successful completion of the Help at Home pre-service training program;
  2. High school diploma or Demonstrate the ability to read and write;
  3. Demonstrate basic knowledge of home management skills;
  4. Be in good physical health, including a tuberculosis test, within (12) months prior to the first assignment;
  5. Demonstrate a caring attitude toward all persons regardless of age or any physical or mental disability;
  6. Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Clients, co-workers, office staff and the general public;
  7. Demonstrate the ability to effectively follow written and oral directions and instructions; and
  8. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively.
