Job PostingSarasota County Government is offering a position for a Building Inspector within the Planning and Development Services Department. The salary range is $25.25 to $32.02 per hour, and the location is Sarasota, FL. This is a full-time position.This position will provide professional and accurate inspection services as a member of the Building Division of the Planning and Development Services Department. This position will inspect buildings under construction and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes and enter inspection results into the Land Information Management System (LIMS) database. This position has a high level of customer interaction and will build and foster a positive working relationship and maintain an excellent customer service standard when interfacing with both internal and external customers.Duties include inspecting buildings under construction, alteration and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes. Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction buildings and building improvements; issues notices of code violations applicable to their license(s); enters results of inspections into the LIMS database, and will prepare reports, worksheets and prepare daily activity reports. Research files and databases and maintains a variety of source background materials for reports.Will provide and maintain an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances and interface positively with peers, co-workers and other customers across the enterprise. Acts in assigned capacity in the event of any County declared emergency. Work Hours: Monday Friday, 7:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.The required minimum qualifications for the position are:TIER I:A High School Diploma or its equivalent.Four (4) years of experience in the Plumbing construction trade or related field inspection or plans review.Bachelor's Degree or courses from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Fire Administration, Building Construction/Inspection, or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience with at least one-year in field construction (30 college credits is considered equivalent to one year of experience).Must have or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable Plumbing trade.Must possess or be able to obtain a Standard Inspector license in the Plumbing trade within 12 months of hire or prior to the expiration of the provisional license not to exceed 24 months from date of hire.Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.TIER II:A High School Diploma or its equivalent.Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing plans reviews and/or inspections. Must have Standard Inspector License in the Plumbing trade AND one of the following licenses or certifications: Building Inspector; Mechanical Commercial Inspector; Electrical Commercial Inspector; Residential Inspector; or Plans Examiner License.Licenses listed above must be issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).Other Certifications include: Damage Assessment Certification (from ICC), Fire Safety Inspector I (from the Division of State Fire Marshal).Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.Preferred Qualification: Multiple licensure's issued by DBPR are preferred in various trades.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
