Maintenance Worker IThe Maintenance Worker I daily tasks include work to complete maintenance activities, landscaping, light construction, natural resource restoration and facility repairs on a region basis, as assigned. Perform routine maintenance of parks, historic sites and trails to ensure that all facilities are clean, safe and maintained at an acceptable level.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Operating equipment, i.e., tractors, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers and other power equipment as needed and assist in the preventive maintenance of such equipment.Assisting in all aspects of landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal and trash pick-up and disposal.Performing necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs.Performing routine inspections of all facilities noting needed repairs; ensuring sites are safe for public use.Must follow all directed county safety procedures.Assisting with natural resource management projects.Supervising part-time maintenance workers as needed.Performing minor plumbing and carpentry tasks.Routinely driving county vehicles and assisting in the preventative and routine maintenance of such vehicles.Coordinating and monitoring volunteers and community service personnel involved in maintenance projects.Notifying region foreman on status of supplies required for daily operations and projects.Performing snow removal duties.Assisting in all light construction activities.Assisting in all aspects of building maintenance including cleaning restrooms, offices and rental facilities.Required to take training as assigned.Other duties as assigned.Qualification requirements include:Experience in building, construction or grounds/landscape maintenance and associated equipment.Must be at least 18 years of age.Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.Ability to fill out daily work forms.Must have ability to work in public areas in a safe manner.Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.Ability to read/write/speak English.Ability to communicate effectively.Must possess a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.Physical demands include:Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when applicable.Have the ability to climb, stoop, bend, reach, walk, sit or stand for long periods of time.Must be able to lift and use various pieces of handheld equipment, up to twenty (20) pounds, for prolonged periods of time.Must be able to at least lift up to fifty (50) pounds (repeatedly).Work environment characteristics include:Occasional exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation (poison ivy, etc.) and other hazards (animals, bees, etc.) when performing their responsibilities.Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, ice and rain.Will work at various sites as assigned.Required to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.Be available for emergencies outside of normal working hours.Appropriate dress and protective footwear required.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
