Prepare patients for treatment by welcoming, seating, and draping them appropriately. Respond to questions and requests from patients and team members. Maintain instruments for treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting the appropriate tools. Assess patients' oral health to select materials and equipment for visits. Perform dental prophylaxis by cleaning teeth and removing deposits and stains. Detect oral diseases by conducting cancer screenings and examining gums. Prevent dental decay through the application of fluoride and cavity-preventing agents. REQUIREMENTS FOR DENTAL HYGIENISTS Active dental hygiene license in Pennsylvania. Familiarity with dental procedures and terminology. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality. Strong communication skills to effectively educate patients on oral health practices.
