Job Description: - Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness. - Organize medical reports for placement in files and review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present. - Prepare charts for new admissions and fill out forms. - Prepare requests for specific reports or certificates. - Compile and type statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, or length of stay. - File reports into health information records and maintain logs. - Retrieve health information records from the filing system as needed. - Provide information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of the request. - Coordinate with other departments concerning health information records procedures. Major Worker Characteristics: - Ability to deal with problems involving few variables within a familiar context. - Skills in writing routine business letters, evaluations, or records following standard procedures. - Proofreading medical reports and recognizing errors. - Recognizing when medical records information is missing. - Gathering, collating, and classifying information about data, people, or things.
