- The following duties are normal for this position:. Other duties may be required and assigned. Under general supervision, performs journeyman-level electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work. Diagnoses electrical problems and determines appropriate methods of repair.
- Estimates the cost of labor and materials. Determines the layout of projects. Completes projects according to blueprints, plans, or schematics. Installs, tests, and replaces electrical circuitry components and internal power distribution systems, including conduit, wiring, connections, receptacles, breakers, panels, and switches. Tests, repairs, and replaces or installs electrical generators, transformers, and uninterrupted power systems.
- Install maintains, and repairs motors, controls, and other electrical components of equipment and appliances, including heating, ventilation, pumping, and solid-state control systems. Installs, tests, and repairs doorbells, buzzers, thermostats, lighting fixtures, alarm systems (if feasible), and communications systems. May lead and instruct other workers. Prepares and keeps records of time and materials used. Uses tools and equipment for the electrical trade.
- Follows and ensures compliance with safety procedures and electrical codes. Drives an automobile, or light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies: ensures adequate inventory to complete work assignments; orders equipment, parts, and supplies in compliance with City procurement policies and procedures; and maintains related documentation.
- May supervise and participate in the operation, use, and maintenance of City-owned vehicles, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and other power and motorized equipment; ensures maintenance of equipment and tools and work and shop areas; and schedules repairs as needed.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated time frames and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation; completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hard copy records.
- Operates a business-issued computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments.
- Communicates with supervisor, other employees, third-party service contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
