The Role: Database Developer

Location: Jersey city, NJ


Position Overview:

As a Database Developer specializing in PL/SQL and performance tuning, you will be responsible for the development, optimization, and maintenance of database systems. This role requires a strong understanding of database structures, PL/SQL programming, and performance tuning methodologies to ensure efficient and high-performing database applications.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement database systems based on technical requirements and design specifications.
  • Write and maintain clean, well-organized, and optimized PL/SQL code.
  • Perform regular database performance tuning and optimization using Oracle tools and best practices.
  • Analyze and optimize SQL and PL/SQL statements for maximum efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with application developers to integrate databases with existing applications.
  • Proactively identify performance issues and troubleshoot to resolve them.
  • Utilize performance tuning tools such as SQL Trace, TKPROF, AWR, and Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor database performance.
  • Implement database changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • Develop database schemas, tables, dictionaries, and scripts.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented databases.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure that database code meets company standards.
  • Provide support for database issues and incidents to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Work closely with the IT team to develop and improve database deployment and rollback strategies.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest database programming trends and performance tuning techniques.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in database development and performance tuning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Oracle PL/SQL programming and database management.
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of Oracle database architecture and its impact on performance.
  • Familiarity with Oracle RAC, ASM, and Data Guard is desirable.
  • Knowledge of SQL profiling and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.



Preferred Skills:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) for PL/SQL or Database Administration.
  • Experience with ETL processes and tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with source control management systems like Git or SVN.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux shell scripting.
