Construction Inspection Specialist (Flex Staff)CDM Smith is looking for Inspectors to provide independent, professional construction inspection and oversight of federal construction projects with agencies such as USACE, AFCEC, and NAVFAC. This is a pipeline requisition for future projects. The Construction Inspection Specialist will document inspection findings and communicate issues to project leadership. The role requires applying broad professional knowledge of construction practices to meet client needs, clearly communicating project progress and issues to diverse functional teams and project leadership, and ensuring projects are delivered successfully, safely, and in compliance with applicable requirements. Work is performed independently under limited supervision.Job Duties:Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects as well as related civil structures (roads, dams, bridges, facilities, utilities, etc.) to verify compliance with approved design specifications, industry standards, safety codes, and applicable federal regulations.Documents inspection results inclusive of deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations between design and execution of construction, required corrective actions and any needed sampling.Reviews contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineers and project management teams.Monitors construction progress, prepares and maintains detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations.Inspects and verifies construction materials and testing processes (concrete breaks, compaction testing, welding/joint inspections, pressure testing, etc.) to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.Oversees and coordinates field construction related services on projects, enforcing adherence to safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.Conducts site investigations, reviews relevant data including maps, reports, test results, drawings and others as required.Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, technical assessments, safety meetings, and project closeout/punch list activities.Ensures compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc. and delivers technical files and other technical documentation as required.Develops, trains, and mentors junior construction professionals, provides technical direction, and serves as a liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.Performs other duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:High School DiplomaAt least 5 years of relevant construction experience. Domestic travel is required. Overseas travel is also possible.Preferred Qualifications:Prior Federal or DoD project experience (NAVFAC, USACE, or Air Force CE) is highly desirableExperience in vertical (facilities/buildings) and horizontal (utilities, waterfront, airfield, infrastructure) construction is desiredKnowledge of federal acquisition and contracting practices.Familiarity with UFGS specifications, UFC design criteria, and EM manuals.Familiarity with electronic systems such as eCMS, RMS/QCS, or other QA tools.OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and HealthConstruction Quality Management (CQM) for ContractorsEEO Statement:We attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
