Job Description

  • The product safety team is looking for a Field Safety Engineer to join their team. This person will support deep dive analysis of products in field. There is a focus on batteries for this team.

Key qualifications and requirements:

  • Technical engineering degree in related fields
  • Experience in lieu of education will be considered
  • Significant Lab experience and command of Failure Analysis & Forensics methods required
  • Knowledge and experience working with lithium batteries
  • Experience in developing test plans, procedures, and workflows
  • Experience in consumer electronics, EE and/or Battery FA especially valued
  • Strong communicator; adaptive personality capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Thrives under pressure and has a high curiosity quotient needed to excel in FA role Strong MS Excel, Apple Keynote skills
  • Data visualization acumen, and the capacity to communicate nuances and conclusions effectively (written & verbal)
  • Proficiency and aptitude for Tableau suite of tools a plus
  • Experience working with data analysis and visualization tools such as JMP a plus
  • Familiarity with Safety standards affecting consumer electronics a plus
  • Experience with analysis of CT scan/X-ray images a plus
  • Weibull analysis and time-in-field forecasting expertise a big plus

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work with other field safety engineers to provide technical support for safety field returns
  • Ensure thorough analysis of field returns across various product families and components
  • Follow FA flow charts & procedures, ensure thorough analysis and reporting of safety field returns
  • Hands-on testing on the safety field return units as needed
  • Conduct battery cell tear-downs and gather corresponding documentation and image captures
  • Assist in submitting samples to chemical analysis lab
  • Work with FA team for submitting X-ray and CT scans of units
  • Responsible for completion of safety field return analysis with findings and a detailed summary
  • Communicate analysis results and findings using Keynote and data visualization tools (Tableau)
