The company maintains engineering and manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and Asia as part of its strategy to provide customers with global reach and local support. We manufactures, assembles and tests complex flow-control components and devices utilizing a wide range of production technologies including rubber molding and finishing equipment. We are searching for an important addition to its team in Griffin, GA, a New Product Development Engineer.


Job Scope: This individual will be responsible for new product development projects which include; assisting the customer (both external and internal) with the correct product based on the application, cost estimate phase, successful prototyping, and commercialization, all while meeting customer specific requirements as well as company targets and quality standards (ISO 13485 IATF 16949).


Primary Responsibilities/Essential Skills:

  • Lead the design definition of a new product in conjunction with the commercial and manufacturing functions.
  • Guide and expedite all stages of product prototype associated with new product design.
  • Guide and expedite all stages of the First Article Inspection (FAI), ISIR and/or PPAP associated with new product design.
  • Develop projects according to project management best practices.
  • Lead product and process development team to the successful and profitable realization of new Vernay products.
  • Develop new products using processes that facilitate the application of lean manufacturing and APQP principles.
  • Work closely in guiding the design function on all products in area of responsibility.
  • Close and record all product/process projects in a timely and professional manner.
  • Improve/enhance basic technological skill sets that will position this function towards the future.
  • Provide technical support to the commercial/operations/quality team.
  • Communicate and provide timely responses to customers, both internal and external.
  • Proficient in the use of simulation tools and test database in order to provide application support to both internal and external customers.
  • Understand and employ the principals of Lean Product Development.
  • Actively participate in 5S program by achieving and consistently maintaining 3S or higher in personal work area. Participate in rotating 5S schedule as auditor for local facility and owner for local common areas.


Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably Mechanical or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in design and development of products through the commercialization process including project management. Experience in the rubber or plastic industry is a must.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding process/tools/machines.
  • Excels in both written and verbal communication.
  • Able to work when necessary with hands-on abilities to operate molding presses, rubber testing equipment, and functional test equipment.
  • Familiarity with APQP, SPC, FMEA, PPAP, ISO 13485 IATF 16949 standards and approach. Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Availability to travel and commute to global customer base and other Vernay plants for training.
