Job Summary:

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with automation and control systems, including PLC programming, SCADA systems, and instrumentation. This role requires a strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces).
  • Develop and review control system schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Perform system integration, including testing and commissioning of control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to define project requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
  • Conduct site visits for system evaluations, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Provide technical support and training to operational staff on control systems and instrumentation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, manuals, and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, with a focus on water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control devices commonly used in water and wastewater facilities.
  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to water and wastewater treatment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with specific PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider).
  • Familiarity with network protocols and communication systems (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
  • Experience with cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
  • Certification in control systems engineering (e.g., ISA Certified Automation Professional).
