Design Engineer - Closed Die Forging (Cleveland, OH)


Our client is a leading manufacturer of closed-die forged components. They serve a diverse range of industries, providing high-quality metal parts for applications in aerospace, power gen, automotive, industrial, oil & gas, off-highway and heavy truck. They are seeking a talented Design Engineer to join their growing team and play a key role in the development of innovative forging solutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and develop designs for closed-die forged parts and tooling, ensuring they meet all engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Collaborate with customers and Process Engineering to understand design needs and ensure technical feasibility.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of forged parts and dies.
  • Perform simulations using DEFORM or similar software to analyze die performance and identify potential problems.
  • Troubleshoot existing forging tooling issues and participate in new tooling development trials.
  • Generate CNC programs for machining of forge die tooling.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Tool Room, Quality Control, and Metrology departments.
  • Assist Process Engineering with part layouts for quoting and estimating new products.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in closed-die forging technologies and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably within the closed-die forging industry.
  • Proven proficiency in using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.) and 2D drafting tools.
  • Working knowledge of DEFORM or similar simulation software a plus.
  • Strong understanding of metal properties, forging processes, and die design principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
