Position Summary: The Medical Records Scanner is an individual qualified by training and experience to assist RHS by maintaining complete and accurate medical records; processing and keeping accurate records of requests for patient information; maintaining the security of the Electronic Health Record (EHR); being compliant with HIPAA/HITECH confidentiality and security rules; and completing all duties as assigned to keep all patient information within the EHR up to date. The Medical Records Scanner possesses and utilizes the highest degree of communication skills to deal with all levels of RHS Staff, patients, as well as all other medical professionals and offices. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Job is predominately a sedentary position requiring sitting for long periods and walking short distances. Job requires extensive computer knowledge and skill. Job will require extensive talking and communicating, both verbal and written, in a clear, concise manner utilizing courtesy behaviors with all other staff and customers. This position requires strong organizational skill, exceptional accuracy, as well as a very high level of attention to detail. This position requires significant proficiency with the Electronic Medical Record system. Job requires the obtaining of patient medical information from hospitals and other medical service providers in a very timely manner at the request of physicians to expedite patient's continuity of care. This position requires the processing of patient medical information for all other medical providers and requesting agencies in a timely manner following HIPAA guidelines on the release of patient information. This position requires the strictest level of adherence to the HIPAA Need To Know rule regarding the confidentiality of all patient, staff, and RHS information. Job requires monitoring that patient's records are complete and notifying providers of any delinquency. Position requires extensive scanning of patient information, and faxing completed orders and prescriptions. All other duties as assigned. Experience/Education Required: Minimum of a High School Diploma, or equivalent; College degree, preferred.
