Informatics Nurse - .6 FTE position, day shift hours, benefit eligible position.

I. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • License and current registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
  • BSN preferred, with additional Informatics training, education, or experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • A minimum of one year acute care or clinic nursing with electronic health record documentation required. Epic experience preferred.
  • Continued interest in professional growth through attendance of continuing education, in-services, participation in professional organizations, and involvement in health promotional activities.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written).
  • Ability to plan, direct, implement, and evaluate nursing documentation in a variety of settings.

Role Summary: Nursing Informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, with multiple information and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom in nursing practice. Nursing Informatics supports the interprofessional healthcare team and other stakeholders in their decision-making in all roles and setting to achieve desired outcomes. The goal of nursing informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals optimizing information management and communication. The Nurse Informaticist strives for value, efficiency, a seamless experience for clinicians, and creative solutions to healthcare challenges within the EHR.

Responsibilities include but are not limited too:

  • Attends organizational councils and provides information and acts as a liaison between SSM and Epic users.
  • Collects data, information, and knowledge in a systemic and ongoing process to examine current practice, workflow, and the potential impact of an informatics solution on that workflow.
  • Determines the problems, needs, or issues based on assessment data.
  • Incorporates theories, principles and concepts from appropriate sciences including project management, workflow analysis, process redesign, organizational culture or database structures into informatics practice.
  • Proficiency with informatics applications to support all areas of practice including quality improvement activities.
  • Serve as content expert in system design, to see relationships among data patterns, to safeguard access to quality of information, participate in efforts to improve information management and communication.
  • Gives users hands-on assistance in using the programs, including nursing and ancillary staff and physicians.
  • Participates in continuing education related to the facilities programs and applications.
  • Participates in the information gathering and decision making for new program implementation, planning, training and evaluation.
  • Participates in prioritization of facility needs.
